Getting good quality sleep isn’t as complicated as you might think. There are simple things you can do to help improve your ability to fall asleep and to achieve quality rest while sleeping.

At our mattress store in Georgetown TX, we believe in providing our customers with useful information to help them achieve quality sleep. Because yes, while a new mattress will probably help enhance the quality of your rest, what also important are lifestyle changes as well.

Here are just a few useful tips to help you achieve this goal:

  1. Make your bedroom a sanctuary: your bedroom should be quiet, dark, and cool. Consider using blackout curtains to make your bedroom as dark as possible. Even the slightest bit of light can reduce your sleep quality.
  2. Time your sleep: Getting to bed at a routine time sets your circadian rhythm and can help improve your sleep.
  3. Exercise early and regularly: Exercising helps to release restless energy that can prevent you from falling asleep. But refrain from exercising too late in the evening. Exercising 4 hours or less before bed can increase your body temperature and make it more difficult to fall asleep.
  4. Shower before bed: Taking a hot shower before bed can help relax your muscles and also send a signal to your body to start cooling down after you’re done showering. Our body temperatures must drop 1 to 2 degrees in order to fall asleep.
  5. Monitor food intake: During digestion, our body temperature rises. Eating too close to bed can prevent your body from cooling off to the point need to fall asleep. Furthermore, foods that are high in sugar can give your body too much energy and prevent you from falling asleep.

Here is a short clip from Dr. Andrew Huberman explaining what he calls ‘QQRT’ (Quality, Quantity, Regularity, and Timing). He explains how getting down a sleep routine will also induce better sleep.
